World’s first hoverboard with UL 2271 listed SentryShield battery system!

The SwagTron T1’s most powerful safety feature is the patented SentryShield battery system which has its own UL 2271 classification. SentryShield is a multi-layer battery protection system that encases the battery in a special fire-proof and damage-proof aluminum case. It is this SentryShield battery system of the SwagTron that has made it the world’s first hoverboard and the only self-balancing scooter product to pass UL’s original 10-ton battery crush test. World's first UL 2272 two-wheel hands-free hoverboard!

The world’s first hoverboard to pass the new UL 2272 standard for hoverboards, making the safest, most advanced and best hoverboard in the world today!

Swagway has truly been an industry leader and has invested its resources into extensive research and development to set a new unprecedented standard for safety, performance and function for the entire hoverboard or the self-balancing scooter industry.

Underwriter’s Laboratories or UL is the leading global safety and quality certification agency which has been in existence for over 140 years. It is the foremost certification and standards organization I the United States and has been the definitive standard for safety in every industry for more than a century. It developed the comprehensive, rigorous and extremely difficult to achieve UL 2272 standard for safety and quality in self-balancing electric boards after the widespread fire hazard incidents across the United States. The CPSC the US Govt. agency, the Consumer Products Safety Commission announced that all hoverboards in the United States are unsafe unless they are UL 2272 certified, and since then there has been a blanket ban of import of non UL 2272 hoverboards into the United States.

SwagTron is the world’s first two-wheel self-balancing personal transportation electric board to have achieve the UL 2272 certification, and its SwagTron T1 is the personification of safety, performance, function and the very highest standards of quality.

State-of-the-art Smart Battery Management System – Smart BMS

The Smart Battery Management System of the SwagTron T1 is a unique and comprehensive battery management system that constantly monitors overvoltage, temperature increases, overcharging of the battery, overcurrent and short circuit protection. It is a very strong protection by itself, against battery over-charging and short circuits.

Patented SwagTron Sentry Shieldℱ multi-layer battery protection

The SentryShield battery system is an air-tight aluminum chamber that encases the lithium-ion battery. It is not only a powerful protection against any fire, it also protects the battery from any damage. It is a multilayer battery protection system that has its own UL 2271 certification. This SentryShield battery system is also the reason why the SwagTron is the world’s first self-balancing electric board to pass the original UL 10-ton battery crush test.

Sealed Circuit Boards and connectors and Silicone Coating for making it fire-retardant

The SwagTron has multiple safety features, especially against fire. In a first for hoverboards, the SwagTron has sealed circuit boards and connectors and has a fire-retardant coating on all internal components. This is yet another feature that makes the SwagTron the safest hoverboard in the world today.

Enhanced Stabilization and dual independent motor and gear control for an easier ride

SwagTron T1 boasts an upgraded dual independent motor and gear stabilization which translates into much better and sturdier control of the hoverboard. This same stabilization has also been incorporated into the learning mode making it easier for beginners to learn how to ride the hoverboard. Another additional feature is the Downhill Traction feature that enables smoother and controlled downhill movement of the hoverboard. This upgraded and advanced Downhill Traction prevents the hoverboard from speeding up when going downhill and improves the overall riding experience. This enhanced dual independent motor and gear control also improves the high speed use of the hoverboard.

Incombustible outer shell made from polycarbonate that is also light weight

The proprietary polycarbonate shell of the SwagTron is another amazing feature that works to remove and fire safety issues. The body of the SwagTron T1 is made of a material that is incombustible and fire retardant, yet it is light and strong. It is made from a proprietary polycarbonate material identified through extensive research by Swagway. This material is also durable, sturdy and long lasting.

Wider non-slip foot pads with improved grip which are also flame-retardant

Along with a host of other enhancements and far more advanced hardware and software, even the foot pads of the SwagTron have been upgraded to the next level. The foot pads are now wider, and have been specially made nom-slip providing a better overall grip. This means you will have even better control as there will be no slipping of your footwear, when you use the SwagTron T1’s enhanced grip wider foot pads. And over all of these improvements the foot pads are also flame retardant.

Open wheel and enhanced traction tires

The SwagTron T1 features open wheels which means that there is better wheel rotation clearance and also maintenance is easier. The tires of the SwagTron are also made of a superior material which gives extra traction to the smart balance board. The SwagTron also features high grade aluminum wheels to add to the many other enhancements.

Learner and Standard modes

The SwagTron T1 has a learner mode in which speed is reduced and stabilization is increased to help learners to ride the hoverboard with greater ease and control. In the Learner mode the sensitivity of the foot pads is also lower so that the first-timers can get used to maneuvering it before getting into the Standard mode. In the Standard mode the hoverboard’s speed goes up to normal and it gets reset to the regular settings of foot pad sensitivity, stabilization, speed etc.

Environment Friendly and with all safety and quality certifications including the definitive UL 2272

The SwagTron is a zero emissions product, environment friendly and has every safety and quality certification that is needed for self-balancing electric scooters. It is UL 2272 certified, and it has all required environmental standards and certifications including UN38.3, FCC, CE, RohS and Prop 65.

How much is a hoverboard

Happy-Hoverboarding-4th-of-July-SwagTron-SwagTronT3-Hoverboards-Best-Hoverboard-Brands-Independence-Day-Mini-Segway

How much is a hoverboard today, in 2016?

Well they range from 150 dollars to 900 dollars. But before you wonder at the enormous price difference when you end up getting more or less the same thing, consider these points:

  • Manufacturers of cheap hoverboards below 150 dollars bring the price down by using lower quality batteries, motors and chargers. This compromises the safety and quality standards of the hoverboards.
  • The cost also depends on the maximum weight the hoverboard can carry, the size of the wheels, the duration it will run of a full charge, and most importantly the warranty and the customer service.
  • Hoverboards today can be classified into three categories – Cheap ones below 150 dollars, Regular ones between 150 and 350 dollars and the premium ones between 350 and 900 dollars.

Tips to choose a reliable and safe hoverboard:

1. Don’t buy anything below 300 dollars

2. Make sure it will take your weight

3. Try to get one with a branded battery like Samsung or LG

4. Buy from Amazon which will take back defective pieces

5. Ensure that there is warranty and if need be buy extra warranty

6. Check for safety and quality standards certifications like FCC, RoHS, CE, WERCs, Prop65, UN38.3

7. Read customer reviews before buying

How to check if it is safe after you’ve bought it:

1. The only way to be sure that the hoverboard you have already purchased is safe to use is to open up the cover.

2. You just need a regular screwdriver and open up about 15 odd screws that hold the cover in place

3. Once the cover is off check for the colour of the electrical circuit boards. Usually there are 3 boards, and they are green of blue in colour. If it is yellow in colour then in all probability it is a cheap model which may not be safe to use.

4. In the opened hoverboard look for the battery pack and check its label. If it is a branded battery, Samsung or LG it is fine. If not then check for the specifications and look at its overall quality. If it looks dicey, then try and return the hoverboard.

5. The battery and the biggest circuit boards are the biggest heat generating component, so they should be on opposite sides.

Our recommendation is to go in for a regular priced hoverboard (300 to 500 dollars) from Amazon and avoid the cheap ones below 300 dollars that are usually found on ebay. Don’t go only by the price, check all the other specs and parameters too.

Mini Segway – Not a Segway, but a handlebar-less hoverboard or a mini self-balancing scooter

Happy-Hoverboarding-4th-of-July-SwagTron-SwagTronT3-Hoverboards-Best-Hoverboard-Brands-Independence-Day-Mini-Segway

Mini Segway - not the Segway, but a mini handlebar less version of it, that makes the rider look like he or she is gliding. Which is why it is more popularly known as a hoverboard!

Mini Segway is one of the terms used to describe the hoverboard. The name is understandable as the hoverboard’s basic principle emanates from the Segway. The first Segway was unveiled to the public on December 3, 2001 in Bryant Park, New York City, in the Good Morning America program on the ABC News channel. It was called the first Segway Human Transporter and it could go u to a speed of 12 miles per hour and did not use brakes.

Dean Kamen – inventor of the Segway

The creator of the Segway was Dean Kamen. Dean who was born in Long Island, New York, attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, but dropped out before graduating. He was doing five years of private research for something known as the Auto Syringe, which is an drug infusion pump. He started his first company with Auto Syringe.

His current company is known as DEKA, and it is involved in various inventions, including the Luke Arm a prosthetic arm that will be controlled by neural signals.

Origins of the Segway

Dean got the basic principles of the Segway from an all terrain electric wheelchair that he developed called the iBOT. It used many of the gyroscopic balancing technologies that were used in the Segway.

Once the Segway was launched in 2001, it came to be known as the Segway Human Transporter, the first self-balancing, electric-powered transportation machine. The Segway uses five gyroscopes and a built-in computer.

The Segway’s speed and direction is controlled by the rider by shifting weight and by using the handlebars to turn. The Segway that was demonstrated initially could move easily on the pavement, on grass and over small obstacles.

The Segway used something known as Dynamic Stabilization as the core of the revolutionary personal transportation vehicle. The self-balancing was achieved through gyroscopes and tilt sensors that monitor a rider's center of gravity about 100 times a second.

Segway produced three initial models, the i-series, the e-series, and the p-series. In 2006 they launched their second-generation designs, the i2 and x2. Segway the company is a Manchester, NH, based business, and was founded by Dean Kamen.

Mini Segway – a whole new design, an instant craze

The Mini Segway was designed originally by Shane Chen, a Seattle engineer. He unveiled it in a kickstarter project in 2013, the company was Inventist and the self-balancing personal transportation board was given the brand name of Hovertrax.

Chen decided to manufacture this new device through Chinese manufacturers. In no time, the hoverboard design was being manufactured by thousands of companies in China. In the Shenzen technology zone itself there are more than a thousand manufacturers making hoverboards.

A very large Chinese manufacturer CHIC made the Chic S1 hoverboard, and the then IO Hawk used that design. The name of the Chinese company is Hangzhou Chic Intelligent Technology Co. and here is a photo of its headquarters in china.

Things are still unclear about who owns the patent to hoverboards.

The current belief is that when Shane Chen started his kickstarter project in 2013, the Chinese manufacturer Chic Robotics copied the idea and manufactured their own mini Segways or self-balancing balance boards. Chich Robotics is also known as Hangzhou Chic Intelligent Technology.

Chic Robotics created a self-balancing hoverboard and brought it to the massive Canton Trade Show in China. From here it became a manufacturing frenzy and thousands of Chinese companies reverse engineered and copied the concept. In the US, companies like IO Hawk and Phunkee Duck used Chic Robotic’s hoverboards and rebranded them to sell in the US.

Chen holds the U.S. Patent Number 8,738,278, which says “Two-wheel, self-balancing vehicle with independently movable foot placement sections.” The latest unconfirmed news is that CHIC has bought the patent from Shane Chen.

The entire scenario is still very murky and unclear, not just in the United States but in China too.

The Mini Segway that now known more as the hoverboard became a massive hit as the most popular Christmas present of 2015. In fact there was one hoverboard flying off the shelves of eBay every 10 seconds.

Currently hoverboards are caught up in a safety controversy, with many fire related incident reported in connection with hoverboards catching fire due to faulty batteries. The lithium ion batteries used by cheap Chinese manufacturers are catching fire on overcharging or on getting damaged and there has been several instances of homes burning down because of it.

Mini Segway is going to improve

Currently there is a movement to bring in new safety guidelines and enhance the design of the hoverboard to make it safe and better. Thus the future is all about manufacturing safer and better mini Segways or hoverboards.

What is a hoverboard?

How to ride a ï»żï»żhoverboard

How to ride a hoverboard – explanatory diagrams and detailed instructions

best-hoverboard-how-to-move-the-hoverboard-backward

Riding a hoverboard is very simple, and very difficult. How to ride a hoverboard – it is all about on how you approach it.

If you are thinking of getting on to a hoverboard and checking it out for a few minutes to see whether you can ride it or not, then there’s a good chance you won’t be able to master it.

If you’re thinking of learning how to ride a hoverboard over as long a period of time as it takes, then you will master it.

To ride a hoverboard, you need to move your feet backwards or forwards, either together or alternatively, and though for a lucky few it comes naturally, for most of you it will have to be learnt.

Have you ever learnt how to ride a cycle?

If you have, then you will know that you cannot learn it on your first try, or even on your tenth. It takes time for the body to figure out how to balance on the bike, pedal, steer the handles and go with the flow at the same time.

Learning how to ride a hoverboard is much easier, but the principle is the same. You have to learn to balance your body, learn to move your feet and go with the flow at the same time. For some it takes one try and about ten or fifteen minutes, and for some it takes about a dozen tries and a day or two.

There are two ways to move the hoverboard, by leaning and shifting our weight or by using your ankles to move your feet. We think using the ankles to move your feet forward or backward is the best way, and also much more intuitive.

In this guide we will show you with simple diagrams just what you need to do to ride the hoverboard. It is actually quite simple, but you need to go in with the mindset that you will learn it over several attempts and over a period of time. Don’t go in thinking that you will either learn to ride it on your first try or you will stay away from it.

BEFORE RIDING THE HOVERBOARD FOR THE FIRST TIME

Here are things to definitely do before you ride the hoverboard for the first time, and also for the first week that you ride the hoverboard.

  1. If your hoverboard has a ‘Learning/Beginner Mode’, put it on – this limits the top speed of the hoverboard to about 3 miles per hour, which means that it will move slowly and be much easier to control.
  2. Check your hoverboard is charged and make sure that it is not low on charge – while moving if the battery dies, you can gets thrown off forward. This problem does not exist in good quality hoverboards as they have a built-in mechanism that shows low battery indicator lights, beeps and also reduces the speed automatically when the battery charge becomes low.
  3. Get a protective helmet and wear it – mostly people fall off a hoverboard backwards, and there are chances that your head will hit the ground. If you wear a skateboarding helmet, you’re going to be protecting your head, which is extremely important. This is even more important if there are tables or other objects with sharp edges around.
  4. Get knee and elbow pads and wear them – If you fall forwards, then you will falls on your knees and hurt them. Knee guards will keep you protected from that. If you fall backwards, then your elbows will take the weight of your fall, and can get injured. Elbow gards will prevent that injury.
  5. Choose a softer surface like a carpet or short-cut grass – Though the hoverboard will not move as smoothly as on a perfectly smooth surface, it is better to start off on a carpet or grass. The softer surface will break your fall and prevent injuries.
  6. Get someone to stand near you when you get on to the hoverboard the first few times – When you are getting on to the hoverboard, it is quite difficult to keep it still, that’s when a person near you can lend you a shoulder or a hand for support to help you can get on to it.
  7. Try to get the support of a wall or a pillar when you start out – this will help you to stay stable as you figure out how the hoverboard moves.

HOW TO RIDE A HOVERBOARD

Getting on for the first time.

To get on to the hoverboard, place your dominant foot on to the footpad, and keep it level and steady. Keeping it level is important as it will not trigger the motor on the wheel and move the hoverboard forward or back.

Now lightly step up on to the overboard with your other foot, while keeping yourself steady. The movement of getting your other foot on to the hoverboard foot pad should be gentle and not sudden. Imagine you are getting on to a rope bridge.

For the first few minutes, try and keep yourself as steady as possible. Do not let your body wobble if you can help it. Slowly you will start to figure out how to press your feet forward and move the hoverboard. Do everything slowly, at a low speed.

How to move the hoverboard.

To move the hoverboard forward, you need to press down the front part of your feet. This will press the front part of the hoverboard’s foot pads, and make the motors in the wheels move the hoverboard forward.

Take a look at this image to get a better idea of what needs to be done.

how-to-ride-the-hoverboard-move-the-hoverboard-forward
To move the hoverboard backward, you need to press down the heel of your feet. This will press the back part of the hoverboard’s foot pads, and make the motors in the wheels move the hoverboard backward.

Take a look at this image to get a better idea of what needs to be done.

best-hoverboard-how-to-move-the-hoverboard-backward

To turn the hoverboard, the basic principle is that when one wheel moves faster then the other, the hovebroard will move faster on one side and slower on the other. The faster side will get ahead of the slower side, thereby turning the hoverboard towards the slower side.

Thus if you press down your left foot, then the left wheel of the hoverboard will rotate faster. Meanwhile your right foot is not pressing the footpad, so that wheel will move slowly or even stop. The result will be that the left side of the hoverboard will move ahead, while the right side slows down. This will cause the hoverboard to turn to the right.

This same principle applies when you need to spin on the hoverboard.

Take a look at this diagram to understand how to rotate the hoverboard in a clockwise direction.

best-hoverboard-how-to-rotate-hoverboard-in-clockwise-direction

This diagram explains how to rotate the hoverboard in an anti-clockwise direction.

These are the basic of controlling your hoverboard. We hope it has helped you. If you still need to figure out something more, leave a comment and we will try and help you out.

What is a hoverboard?

Enough has been said about how the hoverboard is known by many different names and no one really knows what it should be called. You are reading this because you want to know about the hoverboard that everyone’s buying – a board with two wheels that uses sensors and gyroscopes to stay balanced and is operated by an electric motor.

The hoverboard could be described as an electric two wheeled self-balancing personal transportation board. What a mouthful! It’s the hoverboard, simple, and you know what we are talking about.

A more technically accurate definition will be – A hoverboard is an intuitive, advanced technology personal transportation product that utilizes dynamic balancing principles based on calculations of the rider’s center of gravity and moves through the use of gyroscope and acceleration sensors.

There are two parts to answering the question ‘What is a hoverboard?’.

First, we will look at what a hoverboard looks like, its main parts, what it basically does and its accessories.

The second part is to get into the technology and ideas that go into making a hoverboard.

We will start with the first part.

This is what a typical hoverboard looks like, and the call-outs tell you the terms which describe its main parts.

best-hoverboard-brands-hover-board-parts

Plastic Outer Body – Usually made of high quality ABS plastic, the outer shell is hard but light. The coloour and surface is prone to scratches and damage.

Wheels with built-in motors – The wheels of the hoverboard have the motors inside them, which are controlled by the foot boards near the wheel.

Foot-boards – The foot boards are pressure sensitive and use electrical pressure sensors to increase and decrease the speed of the wheels.

LED lights – The LED lights come one when a foot board is in use, and make the hoverboard rider more visible to other traffic at night.

Remote – The typical remote has a lock and unlock option.

Power switch – The power switch is used to turn on the hoverboard, to switch to learner mode and back, and to calibrate it.

Charging port – The charging port is where the external charger has to be plugged in to charge the hoverboard.

Charger – The charger is an important part of the hoverboard as faulty chargers can be the cause of fires in hoverboards, due to over charging.

Fender protectors – The fenders that cover the wheel are the first part of the hoverboard that gets scrated or damaged. Putting some simple rubber fender protectors can keep your hoverboard looking new and unscratched for a long time.

Hoverboard Carrying bag – A good quality carrying bag will allow you to easily carry the hoverboard in places where you cannot use it.

Helmet – Any helmet that protects the head is a good idea, you can use a skateboarding helmet while hoverboarding.

Knee and elbow guards – Knee and elbow pads are a good safety measure as they are the places most prone to injury.

Battery level indicator lights – This is very important as the battery suddenly dying down might throw a rider off the hoverboard.

To answer the second part of ‘What is a hoverboard?’, we need to look inside the hoverboard.

The first hoverboard prototype was seen in a kickstarter project of 2013 and was created by Shane Chen, a Seattle engineer. Chen was issued a patent in 2014 for the hoverboard. The company was Inventist, and that original hoverboard is known by the brand name of Hovertrax.

Here is a diagram of that original hoverboard.

After making a few hoverboards, Chen placed an order with a Chinese manufacturer, and from there it spread like wildfire all across the Chinese electronics manufacturing industry. Now in the Shenzen technology zone itself there are more than a thousand manufacturers making hoverboards.

These manufacturers range from small one room units to large organizations like CHIC. Incidentally, CHIC is the same Chinese company that has bought the original patent from Chen and plans to make huge inroads into the hoverboard manufacturing industry.
