84 year old granny tries hoverboard for the first time and utterly entertains her family.

She’s from Southport, she is 84 and she rides a mean hoverboard. We are talking about inspiring grandmother Pat Williams who decided to give her great grandson’s two wheeled hoverboard a try, and managed so well that she even did a little dance while riding it.

The hoverboard, or self balancing electric scooter, belongs to 11 year old William Williams who is the son of Pat’s grandson Barry Williams. The video was first uploaded on Facebook by Barry’s partner Craig Webster, who said that she was thrilled to see Nanny Pat, as Pat Williams is fondly called by the family, trying out a hoverboard for the first time with so much enthusiasm and verve.

Craig put up the video on Facebook and she noticed that overnight over 20,000 people had seen it. In the video we see two members of Pat’s family heling her on to the hoverboard, and with some encouragement and hand holding, she gets the hang of the hoverboard.

The wonderful and spirited granny then goes on to even move her arms about in an impromptu dance move as she rides the two-wheeled balance board.

Craig Williams said that Nanny Pat is a good sport and believes in ‘living every moment like it’s your last’. She also said that Nanny Pat wanted to try out the hoverboard after she saw one on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. Nanny Pat used to live in Old Roan and has been described by Facebook commenters as being a ‘fabulous brave lady’.

Nanny Pat’s wonderful enthusiasm and surprising agility on the hoverboard had her entire family in splits. She is seen really enjoying her short hoverboard ride. Well it is now official, there is no age limit to enjoying a hoverboard ride.

Jessica Taylor Hoverboard Injury

After Jessica Taylor and her husband Kevin Pietersen bought their five year old son Dylan a hoverboard, Jessica decided to give it a try. She had hardly got on it for about 30 seconds, when she lost her balance and fell.

Not only did she fall, she heard a ‘crack’, and sure enough it resulted in a back injury that has her moving around in crutches. Kevin Pietersen is a former England cricketer and Jessica is the former Liberty X singer, who have two children, their 5 year old son Dylan and infant daughter Rosie.

Jessica was very keen to try out the must-have gadget and was giving it her first try when the fall happened. Due to the fall she will not be able to participate in the Tough Mom challenge of the Good Morning Britain show.

Jessica appeared in the Good Morning Britain show propped up by crutches. It was in the show that she talked about her fall. In her own words, she said, “This unfortunately was a hoverboard-related injury. I need to leave it to my five year old in future, that's the lesson learnt! First and last time! It was the getting off. I've been for an X-ray and an MRI and I'm waiting to hear. I think maybe a little crack."

Jessica was supposed to have participated in the Tough Mums event as a part of the Good Morning Britain show, but was unable to because of her injury. She was replaced by weather presenter Laura Tobin on the ITV breakfast show's competition. The Tough Mums event was designed around the Tough Muddler challenge which has 10 hurdles.

Jessica is one of many celebrities who have taken a tumble while riding a hoverboard. Another very famous instance was Mike Tyson falling off his daughter’s hoverboard.

Jessica however is hopeful that she would be able to get back to the Tough Mums competition that will happen in May 2016 and participate along with other celebrity mothers like Susanna Reid, Kate Garraway, Ben Shepherd, Richard Arnold, Renvir Singh and Sean Fletcher.

To counter this looming issue with the chaotic Chinese manufacturing industry, over a 100 hoverboard manufacturers have come together to form a Trade Association called the Hoverboard Industry Alliance. This industry alliance aims to bring the Chinese hoverboard manufacturing industry up to sped with the quality and safety requirements in the US, such as the UL 2272 amongst other things.

These over 100 Chinese hoverboard manufacturers formed this trade association in January 2016 and have just concluded their second trade conference on 3^rd of March 2016. The Hoverboard Industry Alliance will help Chinese manufacturers apply for the UL 2272, understand and comply with US quality and safety certifications, give assistance and guidance to manufacturers who need help and work towards strengthening and organizing the Chinese hoverboard manufacturing industry.

Hoverboard Singapore News Update - Ho Ching, the wife of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, owns several hoverboards. It happened when she was trying to step off on one of her hoverboards. In her own words she had “a difference of opinion with one of my hoverboards”. She was trying to get off the hoverboard, but it went on a spin, throwing her to the ground.

She shared a photo of herself with a Star Wars Storm Trooper at the Changi airport, showing a flexi-cast on her left elbow. She shared the photo on Facebook on February 8th, the first day of Chinese Lunar New Year.

She wrote in her Facebook post, "First week on half open cast to give space for swelling of arm; Second week full cast to stabilize elbow joint; Now on flex frame 'cast' to enable the elbow to do controlled flexing to minimize risk of frozen elbow as it heals."

Ho Ching is the Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Holdings, which she had joined as Executive Director in May 2002. Forbes has listed her as the 59th most powerful woman in the world in 2015. She met her husband, Lee Hsien Loong, current Prime Minister of Singapore, on 17 December 1985.

Her husband, Lee, is the eldest son of former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He is a certified technology geek, who can code, is a die-hard Star Wars fan, uses a Fitbit for exercising and even owns a lightsaber.

Ho Ching, in her Facebook post featuring a photo of herself with a Stromtrooper in Changi airport joked about her injury by writing, "Must remember to respect temperamental hoverboards!"

Thousands of her fans wished her a speedy recovery and of course a happy Chinese New Year. She was seen in other photographs too, with her left arm in a flexi-cast.

In Singapore the hoverboard craze is on, and they were selling like hotcakes during the December Christmas season. Form parents buying them for children to company gifts, the demand for hoverboards is on the rise. There have been safety concerns because of news of hoverboards catching fire, but no case has been reported in Singapore as yet.

In more hoverboard Singapore news, the authority for the safety of general household consumer goods, SPRING Singapore, has the hoverboards on its radar. SPRING says that they do not directly fall under their purview, however, the power adaptors used for charging the hoverboards have to be registered with SPRING and issued with a safety mark.

SPRING Singapore conducts regular market surveillance on adaptors, and has advised people to be careful when buying hoverboards. They advised people to buy from a reliable source, and to look carefully at the instructions and warning labels. They also have a product safety recall page, where people can check if their particular brand of hoverboard has been recalled.

Singapore airlines has also banned hoverboards on board even in checked-in baggage. Like a plethora of other airlines, they are worried about the low quality batteries bursting into flames.

In fact Singapore Airlines said that its existing luggage restrictions say that no battery with more than eight grams of lithium or 160 watt hours can be carried on board. This restriction prevents hoverboards, Segways and electric bicycles to be carried on board. They have now extended this restriction to include all hoverboards, regardless of what their power supply specs are.
