In a statement issued by Head, they said that they conduct extensive tests on their own masks, to ensure the safety of the masks and have been doing these tests for years. They have clearly stated that they also conduct tests on other brands of full face masks, and have found that the cheaper alternatives do not meet safety standards.
Head said that they conducted specialized tests on several brands of full face snorkel masks on the safety standards for EN250 standard for CO2 exposure at low breathing rates. They found that out of four masks three exceeded the EN250 standard for CO2 exposure. Their own full face masks performed very well in the tests.
Cheaper copy cat full face masks could be risky
They further went on to state that it is the cheaper Chinese manufacturers selling copycat full face masks at lower prices, that are not meeting safety standards. They talked about how their own masks undergo every kind of test to ensure complete safety, but how other manufactures may not be doing these tests.
Ocean Reef creator of full face masks releases statement
Another brand that has come out with a statement regarding the safety of their full face masks is the original creator of these masks in 2012, Ocean Reef. Ocean Reef in a statement released recently has stated that they have put in extensive research, engineering knowledge and testing in creating their original Decathlon full face snorkeling mask model. Their main concern as a brand is the safety of users and improving quality and performance. They stated that other manufacturers that have coped their design sometimes make changes that can cause issues regarding safety of the user to come up.
